OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

About

Occupational Therapy Department enables individuals to achieve personal productivity, wellbeing and quality of life through assessment, goal setting, interventions and participation in personally meaningful occupations while also addressing their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. Occupational Therapy services are provided to a wide range of age groups across a variety of care settings including hospital, home, inpatient palliative care units and community based rehab services. Occupational therapy interacts with various DMGs and ensures optimum rehabilitation for better outcomes and increased patient satisfaction. Department also deals with assistive devices, prosthesis and orthosis for amputee/others patients. Department has seen 1281(IPD), 1740(OPD) patients at MPMMCC and 195 (IPD), 328(OPD) patients at HBCH respectively in the last 1 year. Various research studies are also initiated, which would provide definite therapy programme for the patients. We are also a part of geriatric clinic discussion with medical oncology department to provide proper daily activity training & chemo planning to patients by geriatric onco team.

The services provided by the department include:

  1. We train the post operative breast cancer patients about multilayer bandaging & CDT for lymphedema prevention; customize compression garment and breast prosthesis.
  2. We Provide Mirror therapy, Gait training, Balance training, Graded resistance training to post operative BST patients.
  3. Occupational therapy services provided to the post operative Head and Neck patients are MLD, bandaging, pressure garment, Trismus management & prescribing assistive devices for mouth opening-Silicon Mouth block ,JSK.
  4. Services provided by our department for Neuro onco patients are Cognitive behavioral therapy, Bed side mobility, Cognitive perceptual training and Sensitization techniques.
  5. For pediatric oncology patients we provide Graded resistance/exercises training and Group /play therapy.
  6. For adult hematology patients we provide Energy conservation technique and Body mechanic technique.
  7. For uro onco patients we Demonstrate Kegels exercises for urinary incontinence.

Research & Educational Activities:

The department supports research and educational activities for the development and growth of employees.

Achievements:

  1. Attended workshop on PALL EVOLUTION which was organised by pain & palliative medicine ,MPMMCC.
  2. Attended CME on NEURO ONCO rehabilitation which was organised by occupational therapy department at TMH,Mumbai.
  3. Received membership of SIOG international society of Geriatric Oncology.
