MEDICAL SOCIAL SERVICES

About

The Medical Social Work (MSW) department is an integral part of healthcare organizations and is responsible for addressing the psychosocial needs of patients and their families. Medical social workers are trained professionals who provide counseling and support to patients, their families, and caregivers. They work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and therapists, to develop holistic treatment plans for patients. Medical social workers arrange for resources and financial support to meet patients' needs, making referrals to community resources and support groups, advocating for patients' rights, and providing crisis intervention and grief counseling services. They support patients throughout the healthcare system and work to ensure that patients receive the comprehensive care they need to achieve optimal health outcomes.

The services provided by the department include:

  • Advocacy & networking.
  • Patient assessment and slotting for different welfare schemes for financial assistance.
  • Mediating between patients & doctors.
  • Counselling & handholding the patients in their treatment process.
  • Counselling for safe blood & blood components donation.
  • CSR activities and outreach to strengthen existing funds and donation in kind.
  • Counselling of terminally ill patients and Zoom-based Teleconsultation.
  • Recreational activities of pediatric patients with help from local bodies.

The department supports research and educational activities for the development and growth of employees.

Achievements:

  1. MSW department attends approximately 65 patients in MPMMCC & 30 patients at HBCH every day.
  2. 5871 patients have been benefitted from through in-house funds (Rs. 9,858,227) and 4896 patients benefitted from external and government funds amounting to Rs. 583,978,658.
  3. MSW helped in providing accommodation to 809 pediatric patients at Rain Basera.
  4. Invited by the department of Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKVP) Varanasi for their Platinum Jubilee Celebration to deliver a presentation on “Social Work in a Cancer Hospital”.
  5. On the occasion of World Cancer Cervix Day organized an interactive awareness group of cancer cervix patients and their caregivers along with gynec-oncologist and radiotherapist to mitigate fears and increase compliance.
