About
Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty that uses radioactive tracers (radiopharmaceuticals) to assess bodily functions and to diagnose and treat disease (Theranostics). Specially designed cameras allow doctors to track the path of these radioactive tracers. Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography or SPECT and Positron Emission Tomography or PET scans are the two most common imaging modalities in Nuclear Medicine.
The services provided by the department include:
- The department has performed 8,058 PET/CT scans using various radiopharmaceuticals. It performed 2732 SPECT and general Nuclear Medicine studies. 142 Therapeutic procedures were performed for various cancers including thyroid, neuroendocrine tumors, and prostate cancers. 68Ga DOTANOC, 68Ga PSMA, 68Ga FAPI, 68Ga CXCR4 were introduced as new services in 2022. Lu177 DOTATATE, and Lu177 PSMA were introduced as new therapeutic procedures for neuroendocrine and prostate malignancies. The lab was set up to label Lu177 and DOTATATE or PSMA peptide in-house.
