About
Cancer is considered a systemic disease, so most patients registered at MPMMCC & HBCH are seen by the Department of Medical Oncology, which deals with systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapies, hormonal therapies, immune therapies (monoclonal antibodies, checkpoint inhibitors), and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The department is committed to providing efficient care and insights into research for both adult and pediatric cancer patients.
The services provided by the department include:
- Consultation and treatment (including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapies) for the adult solid and hemato lymphoid malignancies are provided as both day care & inpatient facilities.
- Approximately 35,000 Bone marrow aspiration & biopsies were performed and 30 Autologous bone marrow transplants were done in 2022.
- Geriatric Clinic was started last year in collaboration with departments of Medicine, Pain & Palliative medicine, Physiotherapy and Dietetics. On every Wednesday various aspects of patient care issues in our geriatric patients are discussed and management protocol devised accordingly.
