About

The medicine department at MPMMCC and HBCH Varanasi includes multidisciplinary care which includes physicians, cardiologists, diabetologist and chest physician who are dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care to all patients visiting the department. As an integral part of our onco center, our department combines expert medical knowledge, cutting-edge technology, and compassionate care to improve the quality of life of our patients. Our primary mission is to offer evidence-based, patient-centered medical services that encompass the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various co-morbidities associated with cancer. We prioritize individualized care, considering the emotional and physical well-being of each patient throughout their cancer journey.

The services provided by the department include:

    1. Comprehensive medical care to all cancer patients.
  • a) OPD Patients :
  1. Our major area of concern is to manage all cancer patients with evidence-based management of co-morbidities like DM, HTN, IHD, Cardiomyopathy, DVT, PTE, CLD, CKD, COPD, thyroid disorder, Infectious disease, etc.
  2. Prevent or treat the medical complications as a result of chemotherapy/ radiotherapy. Special emphasis is being paid to patients with Post Radiotherapy and Post Chemotherapy adverse effects.
  3. To risk stratify the patients prior to surgical interventions and give an opinion to the PAC team. Patients who require pre-surgical fitness after PAC and optimization of hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and other co-morbidities are attended daily.
  • b) IPD Patients : Bedside medicine referrals are being attended daily on call, and the same varies from 10 to 15 patients daily.
  1. Manage co-morbidities of the patients admitted in different wards- in both critical and non-critical settings.
  2. Critically ill patients- patients suffering from acute stroke, acute coronary syndrome, sepsis with septic shock, COPD with type1 or type 2 respiratory failure, DKA, dyselectrolytemia, pulmonary thromboembolism, hypertensive emergency, etc are being managed regularly by the medical team.
  3. Post-op glycemic control, optimization of blood pressure along with other post-op complications.
    2. To cater for the medical needs of all the staff of MPMMCC & HBCH and their dependents.
  1. By providing treatment on both OPD and IPD basis whenever required.
  2. Health check-ups of the staff and their dependents are done regularly on OPD basis.
  3. Providing vaccination cover to all health care workers of MPMMCC AND HBCH Varanasi.
  4. Referral to CHSS empanelled hospital, if the required facility is not available here.
  5. Providing medical fitness to all the employees after joining from medical leave.
  6. Medical examination of all the new staff before joining this institute.
  7. Around 40 staffs are attended daily in staff clinic for their various illnesses and needs.
  1. Emergency services: Daily patients are attended from 9 AM to 5 PM.
  2. Pulmonary medicine division is carrying out registration of all Tuberculosis patients on NIKSHAY portal.
  3. As a part of active member in multidisciplinary Geriatric clinic, we have initiated vaccination schedule to all eligible elderly onco patients.
  4. Department also provides diagnostic services in the form of:
    1. Echocardiography
    2. Electrocardiogram
    3. Treadmill test
    4. 24 Hours Holter monitoring
    5. Pulmonary Function Test with Diffusion studies
    6. Bronchoscopy

  • Achievements:

    1. Pulmonary medicine division started Endobronchial brachytherapy in collaboration with Department of radiation Oncology.

    Conferences:

    1. Faculty (Lt Col Praveen L Retd) was invited as faculty and Chairperson in 12th Annual Conference of Research Society for the study of Diabetes in India (UP Chapter) 2023 held on 11th & 12th Feb at Prayagraj, UP.
    2. Faculty (Lt Col Praveen L Retd) was invited as faculty and Chairperson in 4th Annual Day Conference of MPMMCC & HBCH Varanasi conducted by Department of Med Oncology at Varanasi.
    3. Faculty (Dr Devendra Yadav) was invited as faculty and chairperson at UP TBCON 2023 held at Prayagraj, UP.
